The $200 price tag and the irresistible lure of Dr. Mario have so far prevented me from getting into Rock Band, but the first volume has proven to be quite popular–and rumors of which bands will have music featured in part two have already started to swirl. More »

The new Queens Of The Stone Age video, “3s & 7s,” their second for the track, finds the band replaced by Rock Band avatars considerably more skinny and twirl-prone than their human counterparts. Oddly, the previous video for the song, which attempted to swipe the Grindhouse zeitgeist, didn’t feature much more of the band (p.s. this track fucking smokes, but anyone who plays Guitar Hero III already knows that).

gh3.pngEd. note: Chris “dennisobell” Molanphy, our resident chart guru, looks at the upward, downward, and lack of movement on the Billboard Hot 100 in the latest installment of “100 And Single”:

“[A]s I type, playlists are returning to normal, and that plus the inevitable comedown in digital sales will make next week’s chart rather topsy-turvy.” So said I, with hope in my heart, last week in this space.

Because dammit Activision, they’ve earned every last residual possible from their one hit.

ROCKBAND_x360PFTfront1boxart_160w.jpgSo the tracklist for Rock Band, the video game that one-ups Guitar Hero by giving you a set of digi-drums to pound on and a microphone in which to caterwaul, has finally dropped and… it’s kinda weird! David Bowie’s “Suffragette City” and Pixies “Wave of Mutilation”? Faith No More’s “Epic” and R.E.M.’s “Orange Crush”? There’s classic rock, because God would be angry if you called something Rock Band and didn’t include Aerosmith. (Or, uh, Molly Hatchet.) But it also looks like the programmers let their teenage 120 Minutes fantasies run as wild as licensing would allow them. And with so many odd, unexpected, and (especially in the case of the ’00s) crappy choices, we wondered which Rock Band decade rocks the most. Is it the one that gave us stadium-storming cock rock, the one that gave us college radio, or the one that gave us Jet and Coheed And Cambria?
