You can usually count on country music blog The 9513 to be a solid source for news within the genre, so it’s not surprising that their top 50 songs of ’08 list is full of solid picks from No. 1 on down. Plus, there’s music by the adorable Joey + Rory scattered throughout, which should appeal to all three Can You Duet fans out there. 9513‘s top three, via the magic of YouTube, below the cut.

When I heard that Lil Wayne was going to show up to perform with Kid Rock at the Country Music Awards last night, I got pretty excited. I’m not what you’d call a Kid Rock fan, but lately I’ve been rooting on the Waffle House-brawling palooka because he keeps bucking industry CW to no detriment to his decade-long (!) career. Anyway, before the CMAs, word got out that the decidedly non-country Weezy himself was going to take the stage with Kid Rock, who’s already barely country by today’s standards. sugarland.jpgFrom time to time, we like to round up the all-important, all-summarizing last sentences of the biggest new-music reviews. Today’s entry is by the Wayne Coyne-inspired pop-country outfit Sugarland, whose album Love On The Inside comes out in a “deluxe fan edition” today and a plain old edition in a week. (That’s one way to keep the people coming back to the record stores, I guess.)

AP080624044980.jpgWe love charts here at Idolator, but sometimes they can be so elitist. Who cares what critics think, or what the program directors of America feel like shoving down peoples’ throats? We want to know: What are the people demanding to hear? What songs inspire people to vote with their wallets, making them insert a dollar into a machine with one hand while holding a longneck in the other?

demonhunter.jpgEach week, dozens of songs and albums from up-and-coming (or just plain unknown) bands debut on the pop charts. Some of these bands will never be heard from again; some may become the next little thing. That’s why every two weeks Chuck Eddy will be exploring the world of Billboard’s Heatseekers and Hot Shots, looking for diamonds in the MySpace rough. This week, his roster of up-and-comers tattoo-inspiring Christian metal, a song that may or may not be viral marketing for Chevrolet, and a remake of the Dream Academy’s “Life In A Northern Town.”
