taylor_momsen_l_42368Uh oh, there’s trouble a-brewin’ behind the scenes of Gossip Girl between aspiring double threats Leighton Meester and Taylor Momsen. Hollywood Life reports that Taylor’s miffed that GG producers have prominently featured Leighton’s musical output (her own “Somebody to Love” and Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad”) on the show—in addition to premiering the video for “Somebody to Love”—while they haven’t bothered to reach for any of the music yet recorded by Momsen’s band, The Pretty Reckless. Truth be told, Taylor should be more upset about the horrifying clothes the costume department forces her to wear on the show, but hey, she’s picking her battles. More »

Courtney Love Just Kidding About That Whole Taylor Momsen Twitter Fight Thing

09617_135017_courtneyblog_170609blogLast week, Courtney Love took to her Twitter to take on Gossip Girl star / budding rocker Taylor Momsen, saying that the young lady’s displays of kinderwhore style were “just annoyingly cloyingly wrong” and that she should work with her hands, and insinuating that maybe Momsen wasn’t such a nice person anyway. Scandal! That tiff blew away in the wake of many other microblogs regarding the roll-your-own-craft store Etsy and this weekend’s All Points West festival, but someone at New York‘s Vulture (which, thanks to seemingly having someone on Love duty 24/7, pointed out the Tweets in the first place) caught up with Courtney in the bathroom of the It Might Get Loud premiere last night and asked her what happened. And hey, it looks like all is forgiven, or at least like there was apparently no beef in the first place. More »

Courtney Love Is Not All That Convinced By Taylor Momsen

myspace-presents-taylor-momsen-s-large-msg-124889664333Gossip Girl starlet / aspiring rocker Taylor Momsen turned 16 earlier this week, and she’s finally received her birthday gift from Courtney Love: A big old stream of invective over her basically inviting comparisons to the former Hole singer with her sartorial choices of blonde mop, red lipstick, eyeliner, and baby-doll dresses. Love, apparently sent over the edge by reports from a show by Momsen’s band, The Pretty Reckless, that name-dropped her as much as they did Momsen’s Gossip Girl co-stars, let her Tweet flag fly at near Momsen last night: More »

Taylor Momsen’s Birthday Party Was Not Really A “Sweet” Sixteen

img_0023Last night I ventured to New York’s Hiro Ballroom for the 16th birthday party of Taylor Momsen, who stars on the cult-beloved TV show Gossip Girl and who fancies herself a rocker chick in the Sassy cover girl mold. (Note this recent quote from her Teen Vogue cover story: “I would eat a boy my age alive.”) The “party” wasn’t a meet-and-greet affair as much as it was an opportunity for her band, the Pretty Reckless, to perform in front of a crowd of radio-station contest winners, assorted VIPs (including some video-camera-wielding family members), and co-stars. (Who, it should be noted, I didn’t see at all, due to them presumably being ensconced in the club’s roped-off upstairs area.) More »

taylor“Interscope Records has just signed 15 year-old singer-songwriter Taylor Momsen, who stars as ‘Little J’ on The CW’s popular television series Gossip Girl.” Gosh, just 36 hours after her band played its first show? I guess things really are different when you’re on TV, no matter how lousy your show’s ratings might be. [Universal Music Group] More »

Taylor Momsen Filling “Gossip Girl”‘s Romeo Void

I don’t watch Gossip Girl, and I am generally suspicious of the already-famous trying to leverage their celebrity in ways that result in them landing in the music business. That said, Pretty Reckless–the band fronted by 16-year-old GG starlet Taylor Momsen, which played its first show at the New York City club the Annex last night–is pretty decent; Momsen, looking like a refugee from the second stage at Lollapalooza ’92, has a trembling wail that brings to mind Donita Sparks (although the keyboards on “Zombie,” above, are a little too close to those on “Separate Ways” for my comfort). After the jump, the decidedly spunkier “I Really Fuckin’ Love You,” a distant cousin of “Never Say Never” that could very easily slide into the soundtrack for the forthcoming Gossip Girl spinoff set in ’80s Los Angeles.
