hannahmontanacherries1On the heels of a controversy over whether or not Miley Cyrus was miming a striptease in her “tribute to Tennessee” at this week’s Teen Choice Awards comes… Hannah Montana-branded cherries. We’ll know that everyone’s having a laugh when the tie-in extends to Cyrus offering up her very own recipe for a cherry pie, I guess. [Dlisted] More »

“Stripper Radio” May Actually Be Slightly Preferable To The Format Replacing It

thepole-192x1201Last week, we noted that the Denver metropolitan area had a new radio format geared toward “stripper music,” the sort of stuff that one might hear in a gentleman’s club like “Crazy Bitch” and, uh, “Life Is A Highway.” As we figured, the format was basically a way for the station’s management to transition from the knowledge-worker-friendly Indie 101.5 to something a lot louder. And angrier. More »

“Stripper Radio” May Be A Stunt, But It’s Still A Pretty Depressingly Plausible Format

thepoleAt the end of July, the formerly Indie-formatted Denver station KTNI flipped formats from a low-rated blend of knowledge-worker hits to something at another end of the spectrum: It became 101.5 The Pole, and branded itself with the tagline “Our Hits Are Bigger!” Yes, Stripper Radio has hit America, complete with a club who’s sponsoring the whole shebang and pole-dancing tracks like Buckcherry’s “Crazy Bitch” and Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” among its most-requested tunes. The general manager of the station’s parent company, Max Media of Denver, explains: More »

Ex-Journalist Realizes That Semi-Ironic T-Shirt Market Is More Recession-Proof Than Scribing

Former Kerrang! writer Howard Johnson has figured out a way to make money in this current crazy word-hostile age: T-shirts! Hey, everybody needs to be clothed, right? Sadly, he doesn’t have a replica of this top at his online store SaltyRockz, but he does have lots of other options for people who like to have passerby staring at their chests. The “Home Taping Is Killing Music” shirt at left—which seems so quaint now!—is but one of the items available at Johnson’s self-funded “labour of love”:

Warrant’s Jani Lane Hits The Wall In Vegas

Hard rock blogs are abuzz with news of Warrant’s performance at Nevada’s Sunset Station Hotel & Casino on Saturday, at which Jani Lane seemed more than worse for wear. According to a Sleaze Roxx review, “the vocals were out of pitch and about a half beat off the rest of the music. I thought, ‘please, let there be some kind of delay in his ear monitors that’s throwing him off’. Then I watched his right hand holding the microphone shaking badly. Shaking to the point I thought for sure he would drop it. Joey Allen and Eric Turner were trying to help Jani catch up by singing into his ear. This was painful to watch.” Needless to say, YouTube was quickly full of evidence to this fact.

Def Leppard Will Not Be Tackling “Seventeen” On Its Next All-Covers Album

281x211_stewart.jpgDef Leppard frontman Joe Elliott told The Irish News that while he’s honored to tour with the likes of Styx and REO Speedwagon, don’t expect to see his band on the road with any of the bands who shared chart space with it during the Hysteria era. “We refused to go out with Poison or Winger or Warrant or any of those shite bands,” he said. “It’s a real pity that a lot of the newer bands we’ve dug over the years haven’t actually dug us. But that’s just music, man.” Those “newer” bands include Stereophonics and Manic Street Preachers, just to give you an idea of Elliott’s internal timeline and, uh, general assessment of what isn’t “shite.” Well! Let’s see what is and isn’t “shite” in your eyes, readers. I picked my favorite songs from each of the artists Old Joe disses–as well as one from his own band, and one from each of his U.S. touring partners this summer. Which do you prefer?

Warrant Is Most Definitely Back

Warrant! They’ve lost their cherry, but that’s no sin — they’ve still got the box that the cherry came in. The classic lineup recently wrapped up some warm-up gigs for the band’s upcoming tour, and thankfully Jani Lane sounds like he’s in good condition. I will always love these guys, if mostly for Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, which I consider the best hair-metal album of all time. (Occasionally Appetite For Destruction overhears me saying this and threatens to kick my pussy ass, at which point, I back off and pay respect, secretly knowing that I’ll never love it the way I love DRFSR.)
