Taylor Swift's 'Reputation:' Album Review
Will the real Taylor please stand up? The pop star is lost in the mix on her latest LP.

Taylor Swift dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform “New Year’s Day,” the final track on her just-released Reputation album. After suffering through the hitmaker’s various musical vendettas, the stripped-back ballad is something of a relief. It’s a throwback to Taylor 1.0, the singer/songwriter with a mean pen game but sunny personality. “I can tell that it’s gonna be a long road,” she sings over a simple piano arrangement. “I’ll be there if you’re the toast of the town, babe or if you strike out and you’re crawling home.”

That takes us to the sentimental chorus. “Don’t read the last page, but I stay when it’s hard or it’s wrong or we’re making mistakes,” Taylor croons with the help of her backing vocalists. “I want your midnights, but I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day.” If you like what you hear, there’s still time to register for pre-release fan tickets for The Reputation Tour. Despite mixed reviews, the album is shaping up to have a blockbuster first-week with more than a million copies sold. Watch her in action up top.

#reputation is out. Let the games begin.
