And she’s back! Today (July 18) Hayley Kiyoko returns with an enchanting new single called “I Wish.” The 28-year-old has been teasing the anthem – her first solo project since Expectations – for a while now. After one listen, it is clear that it was certainly worth the wait. On it, she depicts a relationship fraught with shortcomings. “I don’t know where we’re gonna go from here, I don’t. You shut down when I tell you all the shit I want. We butt heads, you don’t pay me no attention. And you’re selfish with your affection,” Lesbian Jesus laments. She opens up about what she needs on the catchy chorus.

“I wish, I wish, I wish I found love. ‘Cause I wake up, up in the morning time, and there’s nobody here by my side. I wish, I wish, I wish I found love.” The track has already been warmly received by the likes of her “You Need To Calm Down” co-star Taylor Swift and sounds like a serious hit. But that’s not all. Hayley also rolled out a self-directed video. In it, she and a group of friends engage in some spell-casting to help her forget an ex. After that, they show off their dance skills with a couple intricately choreographed routines. The “Curious” diva opened up about the project in a press release.

“It’s really hard when you love someone who doesn’t feel the same way,” Hayley said. “In this video, I wanted to bring to life the support group we all need when our love for someone isn’t being reciprocated. Having a strong support system of friends is so important to remind us we are loved and we are not alone.” I couldn’t agree more, and I couldn’t be more slayed. Give “I Wish” a listen and watch her in action below.
