Each year, Pochanotas County, West Virginia puts on the annual Road Kill Cook-Off. Here, the residents of the county have found a way to help their struggling economy by cooking foods that would have most people running in the opposite direction. Although no one actually cooks animals that have been killed by vehicles, they do cook things like bears, lizards, and turtles.

The tradition of eating what most consider odd food has old roots in the area where wasting any food is frowned upon. The festival is attended by thousands of people each year and is a jab at the rest of America who look down on West Virginia customs.
