We’ve talked about the tireless archivers at Soul Jazz before, and their compilation of female-fronted reggae rarities, Studio One Women, is chock-full of great tracks. Here are two: a disco mix where Hortense Ellis gives her brother Alton‘s 1967 hit “I’m Just A Guy” a sprawling, gender-flipped take, and the sing-songgy, elliptical “Deh Pon Dem” is by the Soulettes, who counted Rita Anderson–who’d later be known as Rita Marley–among its members.
