Shocking Blue Singer Now Sending Postcards From Heaven

Well, this is no way to start off the day: A few weeks ago, we mentioned our ongoing appreciation of Shocking Blue, the late-’60s/early-’70s Dutch psych-pop band that featured the dig-in-deep vocals of lead singer Mariska Veres. Sadly, Veres died of cancer at the age of 59 over the weekend, and while some of the youngins may know her work only through cover songs–the Blue is one of the few bands to be reinterpreted by both Nirvana and Bananarama–we’ll always remember Veres as the woman who made the postal system sound so damn fiery:
