Sanctuary, which is about to be taken over by the Universal Music Group, will sell the Rough Trade label to the Beggars Group–home to heavy-hitter indies like 4AD and Matador–for a sum of about £800,000 ($1.64 million). [Guardian]

What’s on the Rough Trade roster these days anyway? The original back catalog (minus the Smiths) supposedly went to One Little Indian years ago (thus the A R Kane/Disco Inferno reissues) so presumably this is mostly the brand name, logo and the new stuff, whatever it is.

in the uk they’ve recently put out scritti politti and jarvis cocker … i’m hoping that the beggars group’s reach means that the long-ass delays those two records experienced for their US release will not be the case for future albums on the label.

Here’s hoping! The only other thing I can think of on nu-Rough Trade was Hal, which I rather had wished stayed unreleased, anywhere.

Mull Historical Society put out his records through Rough Trade, but I don’t know if he’s even still active now (it’s been quite a while since the last one).
