Philadelphia Wants A Huge Disruptive Music Festival To Call Its Own

The people who raise money for Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park want a piece of the action that Chicago’s Grant Park is getting from Lollapalooza, so it’s working with C3 Productions–which already puts on the aforementioned festival and the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas–to petition the parks commission for a permit to put on “a multi-day, multi-stage outdoor concert festival for Summer 2008.” Because it’s not like the multi-day, multi-stage outdoor concert festival market is completely glutted or anything! Ah, good old Philadelphia, you’re always late to the party. More details after the jump.

Under the terms of the proposal, the festival will be held over a three day period during Summer 2008, on Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park. C3 will pay for all expenses incurred by the City of Philadelphia for city services such as a police presence and trash pick-up, which could be upwards of $1 million according to city officials. The production company will also cover all costs associated with the restoration of Belmont Plateau following the festival. Additionally, C3 will contribute $500,000 or 7.5% of gross ticket sales, whichever is greater, to the Fairmount Park Conservancy.

The proposal’s being voted on next week, but we have one suggestion for the people doing the voting: Make sure that this guy is guaranteed a headlining slot somewhere. (It can be a dance tent, no biggy.) With the right collaborators and a Pitchfork nod, that $4,000 groundhog could become the next Dan Deacon!
