Big changes are afoot in the Bad Boy universe: the strangely cypher-like singer Cassie has apparently been appointed “first lady” of the label, seemingly pushing aside Faith Evans (where has she been, anyway?). The occasion for said ascent: After countless delays and a head-shaving episode like the one I went through in 11th grade, she has a new single out! “It Must Be Love” a slight bit of R & B that’s delicately wound around a fluttery guitar sample, and it has one “Puff Daddy” filling the obligatory alpha-male role. Yes, those credits do say “Puff Daddy,” which you may remember was the years-ago name of one Sean Combs, the proprietor of Bad Boy who’s gone through aliases like some people go through favorite sweatshirts. What is going on here? Perhaps Mr. Combs is planning on reserving the “Diddy” moniker for his Twitter persona, which has accrued more than half a million followers?
