‘American Idol’ Says Goodbye To Ashley Rodriguez And Three Others

Once Ashley Rodriguez learned she was getting the boot from American Idol last night, she had to endure performing Leona Lewis’ ironically-titled “Happy” one last time before saying goodbye. (Note to contestants: do not take on a song by one of Simon Cowell’s proteges unless you seriously have the vocal chops to do so—which, sadly, Ashley did not.) Three other contestants bid adieu in a night where two-thirds of Kadison—Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta—swung by.

Guess the ladies at home weren’t really digging Tyler Grady’s ’70s rocker-lite moves. Both he and Joe Munoz, who performed Jason Mraz’s “You And I Both” on Wednesday, were voted off. We admit, Joe was kind of a surprise. While his performance the other night was shaky at first, he eventually pulled it all together.

Tyler, on the other hand, just came off as too much of a try-hard. Oh well, dude—look at the bright side: there’s always the Jim Morrison lookalike circuit. And, hey—you won’t even have to leave Hollywood Boulevard.

Janell Wheeler, who chose Heart’s “What About Love” to perform on Tuesday, was also nixed from the show by voters. Note #2 to all contestants: do not take on Saint Ann Wilson’s vocals—ever—unless you seriously have the skill set to do so. Because here’s what you’re biting off:
