Lee DeWyze’s “Beautiful Day”: Hear The Recorded Single Version

By: Robbie Daw / May 27, 2010

Scruffy-faced rocker Lee DeWyze was crowned the winner of American Idol less than 24 hours ago, and already his “Beautiful Day” single has shot into the Top 10 on iTunes (as of this morning it’s at #8). After his first performance of the song on Tuesday night’s episode, we noted that DeWyze just doesn’t have Bono’s tenor range to pull the cover of U2’s Grammy-winning jam off that effectively. Anyway, we’ll leave the verdict on Lee’s final recorded version up to you. Head below to listen to “Beautiful Day,” as well as Crystal Bowersox’s single, “Up To The Mountain.”

We will say it could always have been worse—Lee could have been stuck with a Kara DioGuardi-penned original dirge. (“No Boundaries,” anyone?)

Here’s Crystal’s recorded version of Patty Griffin’s “Up To The Mountain.”

Both are available on iTunes now. Which one—if any—is getting your buck 29?
