Andre 3000 Resurfaces, Covers A Beatles Song For A Nike Ad

Andre 3000 climbed out of the rock he was hiding under for the past few years to record a song for a Nike ad featuring a Kobe Bryant highlight reel to be aired during the NBA playoffs. Even more interesting, instead of providing one of his own songs, the hip-hop artist decided to cover The Beatles. And it’s great! Check out the commercial, featurnig Andre doing a country jamboree version of “All Together Now” from the Yellow Submarine album, after the jump.

Andre’s OutKast partner Big Boi will release his long-awaited solo album this July, but as far as Andre’s recording or acting career, it looks like we’re going to have to keep waiting. (His last movie was an appearance in 2008’s Semi Pro, and his last studio album was the soundtrack for his film Idlewild in 2006.) Hopefully this return to performing new tunes, even if it’s a Beatles cover in a shoe commercial, is an indication that Andre is ready to return to the spotlight again.

And in case you either aren’t that familiar with the song, or are so young you don’t know even know who The Beatles are (which makes my aged brain weep), here’s the original song for comparison’s sake:
