Rihanna And Eminem Continue The Story With “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)”

Recording a sequel to summer smash “Love The Way You Lie” was the last thing on Rihanna’s mind at the onset. “When I first heard the idea about doing a part two, I was just completely against it,” she recently told MTV News. “I just felt like you couldn’t beat the original. There’s no way you can outdo that, so why compete with it?” But lo and behold, part two of the song has made its way onto her upcoming album Loud—with Eminem in tow! Hear it below.

Whereas the original version of Eminem’s song only featured Rihanna on the chorus, “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)” finds the Marie Claire cover girl taking the driver’s seat.

“You’ll always be my hero even though you’ve lost your mind,” Rihanna laments in the lyrics of this more pensive, piano-driven version of the song. Later she sings, “In this tug of war you’ll always win, even when I’m right.”

Eminem comes in after about three minutes with a biting rap: “Hush, baby, speak softly / Tell me you’re awfully sorry you pushed me into the coffee table last night so I can push you off me.”

We admit that, like Rihanna herself, we thought the idea of a sequel to “Love The Way You Lie” seemed like a really bad proposition. But after hearing the lyrical story of abuse from Rihanna’s point of view on “Part II,” it seems to give Eminem’s original version the arc we never knew it needed.

What do you think of “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)”?

i think it is good……but then again Rihanna and Eminem are always good together or apart! : D

    • Robbie Daw

Good point, Tammy. I think each version compliments the other

I love this continuation, this might be the only song I buy off of her new album.

First version is better, but Em’s verse on this was amazing.

  • MBIi

The original song song was decent the first few times I heard it but got stale really quick. I will have to check out “part 2″ when I get home.

  • Luis

i like it better than the first one not saying the first one aint good its good but this ones just better, but then again that’s Em he goes beyond himself ^^ :D

  • Maria

I didnt think i would like the sequel, but i really LOVE it! As you said, the two parts compliment one another and complete the story. And Eminem’s verse on that one is really emotional, awesome!

I really liked the first version of the song. This one is pretty good, but its a lot slower and I think that the faster tempo is what made the first song good, and made you want to listen to it again. Rihannas voice sounds a little different,it was better the first songs, but i do like eminems part…… i just love the way his voice sounds like hes really going through all of this stuff, and makes u feel what song is actually about <3 XD :) :P :?D

I really loved the melody of this song. Rihanna’s voice is amazing and I actually did wish part 1 had more of her in it. I was so happy to hear this – the idea is really good and it only compliments part 1. I think Eminem is good, but I am just not a huge fan of rap.

  • Rosie

Agree with you 100%!! While Rihanna was good in this one, I like the first one better.

  • Laylie

    Wow. Amazing.. Love it. <3

  • Kacey

Its beautifully sad when you listen to the lyrics form both side. Most def shows a shift in power and preception.

Awesome!!! love the eminem line its a wonderful colaboration as usual by both of them!!!!

I LOVE THIS COVER! In the original version, we got Eminem’s point of view, which I thought was the only part needed. When my pre-ordered copy of Rihanna’s “Loud” downloaded on iTunes I saw this in the lineup and immediately listened and likewise fell in love with this song all over again. I think with this being Rihanna’s point of view shows how women who are abused, often, don’t want to leave not out of fear- but out of the fact that the relationship is addicting in itself. It’s very raw and eye-opening. Destined to be a hit, and I look forward to seeing other peoples opinion on the song and their own interpretations! :-D

**I didn’t mean to put “I love this cover”, I meant to say “I love this version” haha.. my bad.

  • Laura

I think this version takes a while to get used to because of how good the original one was, but after hearing it a couple of times i really like it
