Nelly Furtado’s “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)”: Listen

Apparently size does matter to , who we last heard on ‘s single “Is Anybody Out There”? The Canadian songstress is keeping the empowerment theme going on new single “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)”, a noisy Rodney Jerkins-produced jam featuring hip hop beats, Nelly’s Auto-Tuned voice and lyrics about the singer finding strength in the size of her earrings. Heart it below!

“Tonight is the jam, I’ll be there till dawn / I’m goin’ down, I got got my big hoops on / pant legs so wide, I got my backpack on,” Furtado sings, taking on the sassy persona of a younger version of herself.

We’re more excited than anyone about Nelly’s return to pop music. Upcoming LP T.S.I. will be her first English language album since 2006′s Loose, after all. But if we have one criticism, it’s the singer’s unnecessary Rihanna-esque vocal delivery here. And, actually, if we have a second criticism, it’s that this isn’t the strongest lead single we’ve heard from an album. Let’s hope she’s keeping the big guns under wraps for the second offering from the new LP.

I agree! Not a strong single. I’m lost in the beats and the annoying vocals.

what? rihanna owes nelly for paving the way for such annoying voices. nelly was doing dancehall with missy before rihanna even hit puberty.

  • Evan

I agree that this isn’t the strongest single. The whole song is kind of annoying actually, not just her vocals. She should have further explored the sound she and Timbaland developed for “Say It Right”. That song was so hypnotic. A “Say It Right 2.0″ would be amazing.

This really isn’t her strongest. The vocals are so annoying. I wish she could go back to singing stuff from her first album, which was really good.

  • The Better The Better The Nelly

This is an AWSOME track. She is an innovator and a creator and she understands pop culture so well. Standind single. One of her best and a great comeback
