Austin Mahone has come a long way in two years. The 17-year-old gathered a loyal following performing covers on YouTube but has since graduated to bonafide pop star status – hitting the studio with RedOne and opening for Taylor Swift on her Red tour this summer.
The teen sensation dropped by Radio Disney earlier today (June 7) to promote his new RedOne-produced single “What About Love”. More importantly, the heartthrob revealed that he owns hundreds of hats and played a bunch of his favorite songs.
In an earlier interview with Ryan Seacrest, Austin described his new jam as “basically a song about me in this relationship with a girl and something happened along the way and it’s like… so what about love?” Deep.
When he’s not in the studio crafting hits, the boy dubbed the next Justin Bieber hangs out with tourmate Taylor and, at least on one occasion, with Selena Gomez and Ed Sheeran.
“I’m on tour with Taylor Swift now and we always like to chill or go have dinner,” Mahone told Seacrest. “It was cool, it was after the Billboard Awards and Selena went to dinner with Taylor, and Taylor invited me and Ed.”
Austin’s one-hour Radio Disney segment (see a preview below) airs June 10 at 3:00 p.m. PT/6:00 p.m. ET. “What About Love” hits iTunes the same day.
