Chris Brown’s ‘X’: Preview Album Tracks “Something Special” & “Sex You Up”

Chris Brown‘s X (now out August 26) promises to be a star-studded affair, featuring Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna among a slew of others. However, two new snippets reveal how the “Fine China” singer plans to handle the solo songs — particularly the ballads.

In a clip of “Something Special,” Brown’s affectionate lyrics — “It feels too good to be real” — transform into boozy, druggy confessions as his vocals loop and overlap each other, culminating in a woozy interlude that The Weeknd would co-sign. And in the R&B-lite “Sex You Up,” Brown’s breathy voice refuses to crack as his appetite grows, from wanting one kiss to sweet love to, erm, “Please fuck me forever.”

So while X previously promised to pay homage to soul greats (Sam Cooke, Quincy Jones), songs like “Something Special” and “Sex You Up” give away who Brown ultimately has to seduce: Top 40-oriented R&B/hip-hop radio. (Team Breezy’s a given, right?) Check out the previews after the jump.
