The Weeknd already lent his smooth vocals to Sia‘s impressive The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack contribution “Elastic Heart” but his solo cut “Devil May Cry” is even better. A sparse alt-R&B ballad that slowly winds its way through an acoustic guitar-dominated, synth-scattered soundscape, the moody track hits home both sonically and emotionally.
“The night will shine through the rain and heaven will hear them call your name,” sings the Canadian in his unmistakable tenor before taking it right back for the subtle chorus. It’s relentlessly ominous, bleak and lyrically perfect for the subject matter. Listen to The Weeknd’s gem after the jump.
