Watch Kanye West Freestyle In 1998 Home Video

One way to build some hype around your new mixtape? Release a trailer with lost ’90s footage of a baby-faced Kanye West. That’s what Chicago rapper Cap 1 has done with the trailer for his forthcoming mixtape Caviar Dreams, and here we are talking about the trailer to Caviar Dreams. The spot includes a chunk of a home video from 1998 showing Cap and a grinning West freestyling, and it is wonderful.

Cap 1 (who was recently heard on 2 Chainz“Where U Been?”) starts things off at about the 17-second mark, then he passes the mic to West, who would have been in his early 20s at the time of this video. Despite being in the basement with a makeshift gold curtain behind him, and rocking a cut-off Champion t-shirt, Ye’s already rapping about keeping the fame and how he’ll “rise to the top because it ain’t in me to fail.”

Check out the time warp below.
