Iggy Azalea Reaches Number One With “Fancy”, Equals A Beatles Record & Celebrates On Twitter
First things first, she’s the realest. Oh, and she also has the biggest hit in the country. Of course, I’m talking about Iggy Azalea, who reached the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 today (May 28) with Charli XCX-assisted phenomenon “Fancy”. But the accolades don’t stop there. The Aussie bombshell becomes the first act since The Beatles (!!) to have her first two chart entries rank first and seconds thanks to her feature on Ariana Grande‘s “Problem”, which climbs a spot to number two.
The hip-hop diva also becomes the first female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 in a decade. The last lady to achieve the feat? Remy Ma, who featured on Terror Squad‘s 2004 chart-topper “Lean Back”. (And no, Nicki Minaj is yet to land a number one single). It goes without saying that Iggy is totally pumped and she jumped on Twitter to celebrate. “Well I’m very pleased, last year seemed impossible to convince anyone in the music business I could break into the top 100,” she tweeted.
