Lana Del Rey Ponders “Is This Happiness” On Sublime ‘Ultraviolence’ iTunes Bonus Track: Listen
Nobody paints a picture more vividly than Lana Del Rey. Take the opening verse of Ultraviolence iTunes bonus track “Is This Happiness”. “High up in the Hollywood Hills drinking violet pills, writing all of my songs about my cheap thrills,” croons the perennially depressed diva over fuzzy piano keys. “You’re a hard man to love and I’m a hard woman to keep track of.”
So begins one of the most evocative ballads on the 27-year-old’s sophomore set. It’s fascinating to hear Lana ruminate on happiness and because it seems like such a foreign concept to her. As expected, the Fader cover girl doesn’t exactly come to a feel-good conclusion but her rambling thesis, which is accompanied by subtle strings and melancholy percussion, is unmissable.
