One Direction Announce ‘Four’ Lead Single “Steal My Girl”

One Direction will release the lead single to its new album Four on September 29. “Steal My Girl” was penned by Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, alongside the songwriting team responsible for Midnight Memories “Best Song Ever” (Ed Drewett, Wayne Hector, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan). “Over cascading stadium piano chords, ‘Steal My Girl’ shows the band continuing to expand their influences and song-writing ability while retaining their widescreen pop sound,” a press release says.

One Direction had announced Four just last week with a free track, the bright and polished pop-rock song “Fireproof,” which has now been downloaded 1.1 million times. Last month, producer Naughty Boy (“La La La”) revealed that Emeli Sande worked with the group’s Zayn Malik on a song called “One Chance to Dance” – “a real progression for them,” he says. Meanwhile, label boss Simon Cowell has called One Direction’s new album “one of their best.”

Along with the release of “Steal My Girl,” the group is prepping to celebrate Four‘s November 17 release with a TODAY show performance that same day.
