Adele’s New Album Won’t Drop Until 2015 — At The Earliest

Well, this is disappointing. Adele‘s follow-up to mega-selling sophomore LP 21 isn’t due until 2015 — at the earliest. It was initially thought that the Grammy-winning Brit would drop new music before the end of the year but that has been ruled out by her label XL Recordings. The news was significant enough to be detailed in the company’s financial reports, which were tracked down by the New York Times.

There will not be a further new release by Adele during 2014 and consequently there will be a fall in XL’s turnover and profits,” the document reads. “Nevertheless, the directors are confident that by pursuing management policies… XL will continue to achieve success with other artists.” It’s a blow for XL Recordings and the music industry as a whole given 21‘s blockbuster sales tally of 25+ million copies. To put things into perspective, no act has shifted 10 million copies worldwide in 2014.
