Swedish Diva Ji Nilsson Implies That Gwen Stefani’s New Single “Baby Don’t Lie” Is A Rip-Off: See Her Tweets

Swedish diva Ji Nilsson had a distinct sense of deja vu when she first heard Gwen Stefani‘s new single “Baby Don’t Lie”. She felt the song ripped off her own 2014 single “Heartbreakfree” and jumped on Twitter to (very politely) express her surprise. “People all over the internet are saying @gwenstefani s Baby Don’t Lie sounds just like my previous single ‘Heartbreakfree’!” she tweeted.

The Scandinavian singer/producer also retweeted a supporter’s comment about imitation being the greatest form of flattery, before giving a longer explanation when Gwen’s fans started trolling her mentions. “I have not been sitting around waiting to say that a famous artist copied the production of my song,” Ji lamented. “Blogs started to write about it and people agreed so I listened to Baby Don’t Lie and yes, I agree that the production sounds alot like Heartbreakfree.”

She actually has a point. The production does sound very similar, which may or may not be a total coincidence. Ji should probably take that up with Ryan Tedder and Benny Blanco (who produced “Baby Don’t Lie”) but I sincerely doubt Gwen has ever heard the actually-rather-great “Heartbreakfree” in her life. Compare both songs after the jump and see the aggrieved pop star’s tweets.

Now it’s time to judge for yourself. Here’s Ji Nilsson’s “Heartbreakfree”:

Does Ji have cause to be mad or is she tripping? Have your say in the comments below.
