Selena Gomez Drops Emotional Single (Possibly About Justin Bieber), “The Heart Wants What It Wants”: Watch

We’ve known about her “secret project” for months, and after many, many weeks of teasing, Stars Dance diva Selena Gomez has finally returned with the first taste of new music from her forthcoming greatest hits compilations, For You (out November 24) — and it packs one hell of an emotional punch.

Kicking off with a quivering voice recording, the track seems to chronicle Selena’s notoriously rocky on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber, crooning sadly above a slow tripping, finger snapping beat. (Gone is any trace of the EDM that colored Stars Dance!) “There’s a million reasons why I should give you up…but the heart wants what it wants,” she sings along the chorus. The accompanying video sees Selena cuddling up with a beau, looking conflicted and emotionally tearing up in front of the camera. This is a more mature, more vulnerable Selena than ever before — it’ll be interesting to see the response (and read all the relationship conspiracy theories), to say the least.
