Daily Deal: Mumford & Sons’ ‘Johannesburg’ EP

Mumford & Sons‘ new EP, Johannesburg, is a collaboration with Senegalese singer Baaba Maal, South African pop group Beatenberg and fellow Londoners The Very Best. The tracks were recorded in — you guessed it — Johannesburg, between shows on Mumford & Sons’ South African tour.

The EP was made over two days, giving it that organic jam-session feel. The featured artists bring soulful vocals and percussion to the mix. And of course, the classic Mumford & Sons folky strings and dramatic builds are still there.

“Going to South Africa felt to us to be an adventure into a continent that none of us knew well,” bassist Ted Dwayne said in a recent interview. “The appetite for live music is huge and the youth culture is exploding with energy and rejuvenation.”

Johannesburg will be available on iTunes this Friday, June 17. You can listen to “There Will Be Time” here:
