The Unreleased Music Prince Sent To Donatella Versace Is Really Good

Prince and Donatella Versace were good friends, as one might expect. So good, in fact, that Prince had been sending her bundles of his unreleased music “for years.” This went on as recently as five months ago, according to the designer, and she used some of that material to soundtrack the Versace menswear show at Milan Fashion Week as a tribute to the late music legend.

“I wanted to express my love and admiration for my friend who I miss so much. Celebrating him and his music at my menswear show seemed like the best way,” she told Billboard about last weekend’s show. “The biggest tribute you can pay to him is to play his music, and to keep his memory alive.”

The material used in the mix is a lot more ominous than the stuff he released over the last couple years. It’s mainly an instrumental, but Prince’s voice introduces “the Versace experience” and commands the crowd to “clap your hands for Donatella, c’mon y’all, it’s all right.”
