This International Women’s Day (March 8), the organizers behind the Women’s March on Washington called for “A Day Without a Woman.” Women were encouraged to either take the day off; spend money only at small, women and minority-owned businesses; and wear the color red.

Among those spreading the word were musicians — all female so far, with the exception of Lin-Manuel MirandaKylie Minogue, MadonnaAlicia KeysKaty PerryHayley Williams of Paramore and Lizzo all showed support on social media. Adele quoted Charlotte Whitton, the first female mayor of a major Canadian city: “Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good.
