Laine Hardy Wins ‘American Idol,’ Drops Debut Single “Flame”
Laine Hardy was crowned the winner of American Idol last night (May 19) and celebrated by dropping a single called “Flame.” The 18-year-old from Livingston, Louisiana has opted for soulful songs and country tunes during the competition, but his debut is a feel-good pop anthem (albeit with country trappings). “I hope what you’re looking for, I hope you get what you’re wishing for, I hope you see what I see when I see what I see in you,” he croons at the beginning of “Flame.”
“And if the darkness arrives in the still of the night and there’s no one in sight,” Laine belts on the catchy chorus. “Put your light up, put your light, put your light up — so I can see your flame.” The song is sweet-natured and exceedingly cute. Which explains why it’s currently sitting in the top five on iTunes. American Idol hasn’t produced a household name in a while, so we’re due for a winner to make a big splash. Could Laine be the one?
