From the cheerful bubblegum-pop of his debut single “iYiYi” to the mellow, beach-rock of 2013 LP Surfers Paradise, Cody Simpson‘s sound has already evolved beyond recognition. That’s probably par for the course when you arrive on the scene as a fresh-faced 13-year-old, but the Aussie star’s sonic transformation has been quicker and bolder than most. The teenager is about to take the next step in his career by embracing a largely acoustic singer/songwriter sound on his third album.
Cody has spent the past few months chipping away at the LP in Malibu with Cisco Adler. “The way I’m going about the new stuff is the way people would go about a rock album,” he explains. “I’m writing everything with the same songwriter and producer — then I get together with my band and record it live. That’s the way I’ve always wanted to do it but never had the capacity or the tools.” Is there still room for a little pop? “No pop for me,” the 17-year-old laughs. “Pop’s dead in my mind.” More »
Cody Simpson is full of surprises. The Aussie star recently joined forces with Justin Bieber for mellow acoustic-pop anthem “Back To Mama” — the first taste of their upcoming duets LP — and now drops a surprise cover of Mr. Probz‘s breakthrough hit “Waves”. (The Dutchman’s worldwide smash finally broke into the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 this week). And it’s really, really good.
The 17-year-old strips the song right back for his acoustic remake, which is reminiscent of the original version of “Waves” before it got remixed by Robin Schulz. Cody shows off his ever-improving voice and the arrangement is very much on-point. It’s exciting to see the “Pretty Brown Eyes” hitmaker taking his career in a more organic, natural direction. One listen to The Acoustic Sessions is all you need to know that this is the right sound for him. Listen after the jump. More »
Well, that didn’t take long! A couple of hours ago the cover of Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson‘s long-awaited duet “Home To Mama” surfaced online and now the track is here via new social networking app Fahlo. So, what does the acoustic-pop anthem like? Different to anything else the “Confident” hitmaker has released — in a good way.
“I’ll take you home to mama, let you meet my friends,” the heartthrobs sing in the understated chorus. “Because you don’t come with drama, so I want you ’til the world ends.” The lead single of JB/CS‘ upcoming duets album is a mellow jam that showcases of the quality of their voices (the harmonizing at the end is great) and guitar chops. Justin Bieber has joined forces with friend/fellow heartthrob Cody Simpson to record a duets album. That’s been common knowledge since at least September when the Aussie singer opened up about the collab in an interview. They haven’t really shed too much light on the project since but today (November 11) the cover of lead single “Home To Mama” arrived online, so I guess it’s full steam ahead.
Cody proved he could strip it right back on 2013′s The Acoustic Sessions EP but this is definitely a different look for Justin. The unlikely duo strum guitars outside a cabin on the cover of their first duet, which is expected to be understated singer/songwriter fare. “Home To Mama” is expected to drop later this week, with the album to follow in late November. Begin shaking and crying now, Angels and Beliebers: Cody Simpson
and Justin Bieber
‘s majorly anticipated collaboration is nearly upon us.
Although the frequently headline-making Biebs didn’t have time to finish that duet with Ariana Grande, he did manage to hop in the studio with the Aussie teen heartthrob back in June.
Late last night, Cody tweeted about their upcoming music and uploaded an Instagram video teasing the new tune. And, although it sounds a little muffled, the heartfelt guitar-led ballad still sounds like a promising collaboration. “You tell me love is blind, but baby, I can see it all…”

performed her smash hit “Problem”
during the May 20 Dancing With the Stars
finale. Judging by how NeNe Leakes
was dancing, this time will hardly be Grande’s last.
But before Grande took the stage, Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX performed “Fancy.” Both stars were in plaid, though they weren’t dressed for Clueless. Instead, with cat-eye glasses and a sash as accessories, both appeared as they would for a sock hop-themed prom. (Azalea would later apologize to fans for technical issues, though she quickly recovered.) Then Cody Simpson performed his new single “Surfboard,” posing as a surf rock frontman but also chirping like a Boost Mobile and actually singing, “She on my surfboard, gonna ride it – surfboard!”
So by the time the Yours Truly star appeared, posing on a motorcycle and dressed in sleek black separates, it was clear that all the finale performers were assigned a theme, just like the show’s contestants. More »
