Out Here "Grindin,'" Clearly

So far, Lil Wayne and Drake has drawn attention to the competitive aspect of its ongoing tour. The Capcom-sponsored Drake Vs. Lil Wayne tour, launched August 9, has fans voting on who performs first and ultimately “wins” each stop. Lil Wayne won opening night, although he hasn’t fared well in Texas so far.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne’s new “Grindin’” video focuses on how much fun they and the crowd have each night. The DJ Scoob Doo-directed clip, albeit with choppy and amateurish editing, alternates between live footage of Lil Wayne and Drake on stage, close-ups of women in the crowd and the rare moment when the Young Money headliners can unwind – share a smoke, down some shots, whatever. Drake Makes His VMA Acceptance Speech At The ‘Drake Vs. Lil Wayne’ Show In Boston: Watch

Although he won the Best Hip-Hop Award for “Hold On, We’re Going Home” at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards this past Sunday, Drake was unfortunately unable to accept his Moonman while out on his joint tour with fellow Young Money rapper, Lil Wayne.

However, that didn’t stop the Toronto rapper from eventually making a pretty hilarious acceptance speech at his show in Boston the day after. Weezy got the ball rolling by introducing the prize, while Drizzy thanked him as if he were Chicago hip-hop star Common, who had initially presented the award on Sunday’s telecast.

“First of all, I want to thank God,” Drake stated. “I’d like to also thank my mother because I love her very much. I’d also like to thank Lil Wayne because none of this would be possible without that man right there.”

He then went on to say: “I know this is a hip-hop award and I know a lot of you out there are frustrated, like this is not a hip-hop song. You’re right, I tricked you all! Rappers, better luck next year. Thank you!”

Pop Stars Accept The Ice Bucket Challenge: Watch Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift Get Wet

Pop stars are really getting behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which raises money for the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease. Participants donate $100 or have a bucket of extremely cold water poured over their head. (To their credit, most celebrities have elected to do both). As a result, social media is buzzing with videos of soaking wet divas and shirtless singers. Bless.

As a part of the challenge you have to nominate three other people to take part. ‘Drake Vs. Lil Wayne’ Tour Launches In Darien, New York: Watch

Fight!
Drake and Lil Wayne launched their Drake Vs. Lil Wayne tour in Darien, New York, to set a new precedent for co-headlining treks.

The two Young Money artists – the protege and the sage, as the trailer says – didn’t completely rely on a setlist. Instead, they had fans who downloaded the Lil Wayne Vs. Drake tour app vote on who would perform first. From there, Lil Wayne and Drake took turns performing snippets of their respective hits – and exchanging disses in efforts to “win” the Street Fighter-inspired night. (Yes, the tour is sponsored by Capcom.)

After Drake performed his part from DJ Khaled‘s “No New Friends,” his label boss joined him on stage. “I kinda remember that, but, uh, you probably was still in the wheelchair when I was making hits,” he said, a brutal way to shout out Drake’s Degrassi role and introduce his verse in “Duffle Bag Boy” by Playaz Circle, the rap duo featuring 2 Chainz (when he was still known as Tity Boi). Thanks to moves like that, Lil Wayne won the tour’s opening night.
