In early November, we asked Idolator readers to vote for their favorite albums from the first half of 2014, and followed that up two weeks ago with a poll featuring LPs released between July and December. And now the results are in, the numbers have been tallied and we’re presenting you with the 10 Best Albums Of 2014, as chosen by you!
Altogether, nearly 74,000 votes were cast for the 40 albums included on both polls, with each album within the Top 10 racking up at least 1,000 of those votes a piece. Two of the albums represented below even wound up on our own 10 Best Albums Of 2014 list, as chosen by the Idolator editors.
Head below to see the results for which 10 albums were voted by you as the best of the best this year! More »
How time flies on The Voice. One day, there are countless hopefuls whose names will be forgotten in an instant, and the next there are just four…whose names will take slightly longer to forget. (I kid! I kid!) The final four all broke into the iTunes Top 10 last night with their original singles, a first for the show. In fact, Matt McAndrew’s “Wasted Love” knocked Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” out of first place on the iTunes Top Songs chart. Perhaps this is the season where a real star is born.
Speaking of real stars: Tuesday night’s finale was full of them! Coaches Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine got to kick back in their red chairs for most of the finale, while A List talent including Hozier, Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson, Meghan Trainor, Jennifer Hudson, Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy and Jessie J took the stage. So hey, three runners up, you may not have won The Voice, but you had backstage passes to a pretty great Jingle Ball, right? More »
Jessie J is following up her Grammy-nominated tune “Bang Bang” with “Masterpiece,” a melodic ballad that is tamer than its single predecessors but still packs the same punch. The singer previously released a lyric video for the tune, but now its official visual is here! It shows a day in the life of a major pop star, as Jessie J preps for lengthy photoshoots, handles interviews with the press and performs for her adoring fans.
“Masterpiece” is the current single from Jessie J’s third studio LP Sweet Talker, which includes tracks like “Bang Bang,” “Burnin’ Up” and “Ain’t Been Done.” The singer released the project on October 14. More »
Demi Lovato is just like you and I. (Only rich, famous and super talented). The “Really Don’t Care” diva spotted some of her idols at recent events and couldn’t help taking some pics for her Instagram account. Because, who wouldn’t? “This guy is unbelievably sweet and incredibly talented… he told me he had been listening to Unbroken all day the day he found out about all 4 Grammy nods,” she wrote of her encounter with Sam Smith.
The 22-year-old also posted a happy snap with Gwen Stefani, Pharrell and Charli XCX at Jingle Ball, where also performed a surprise duet with old friend Nick Jonas. That pic is pretty hard to beat — ok, it wins — but Demi also hung out with Jessie J, she’s still raving about their impromptu rendition of “Bang Bang”, and got a little sappy about boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. “My love…. Always supporting me,” she wrote. See all the pics up top. More »
There is no question that Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX and Jessie J had major music moments in 2014 — and now the pop divas are being honored for their work. Billboard has revealed the trio are joining their list of this year’s Women In Music. They join the likes of Ariana Grande and Idina Menzel, who were previously announced.
Not surprisingly, the publication recently crowned Taylor Swift as their “Woman of the Year.” With a record-breaking album to chart-topping singles like “Blank Space,” the singer was hard to escape this year — no matter how hard we tried. The 9th Annual Billboard Women in Music Awards will be held on December 12 in New York City. View the entire list of honorees after the jump! More »
Pharrell Williams and Ed Sheeran were up bright an early today to make the announcement of the initial nominees for the 2015 Grammy Awards on CBS This Morning. And, probably no surprise here — each of them landed nominations in at least one of the five categories announced so far. (The rest of the categories will be revealed throughout the day on Twitter, and we’ll be updating right here, so keep checking back!)
Sheeran’s x is up for Best Pop Vocal Album, where he’ll compete with Sam Smith, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and others. Pharrell’s G I R L is up for Best Urban Contemporary Album, as is Beyonce‘s 2013 self-titled LP (another one Pharrell worked on). As for the biggest award of the night (Album Of The Year), nominees included the “7/11″ singer, Smith, Pharrell, Sheeran and Beck. More »
Wait…what? It’s December already? Guess we should get the rest of this thing going, then.
Last month we presented you with the first part of Idolator’s reader’s poll on the best albums of 2014 — one where we had you vote on your favorite releases from January through June. Let’s just say that Michael Jackson‘s fans were present and counted for with that one, as were the members of Mariah Carey‘s Lambily.
Now it’s time for part two, where you have free reign to help determine which LPs released between July and December are the best. There are plenty to choose from, so let’s just get to it below, shall we? As usual, when all is said and done, we’ll tally up the results from both polls and sort out what Idolator readers deem to be their 10 favorite records from 2014.
Note: As this is a two-part poll, it’s also a two-part process. Once you vote, we also want you to leave your thoughts in the comments box below on why you chose that particular album. We’ll be reading all of your feedback and including some of it when we post the Best Albums Of 2014 Readers’ Poll results.
So get to voting below, then remember to write out why your fave deserves to be in our year-end roundup of 2014’s best albums! More »
“Bang Bang” is undoubtedly one of the biggest songs of 2014, all thanks to the combined powerhouse chops (and killer rap skills!) of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Girl power all around — but what happens when you throw a different talented diva into the mix? As it turns out…pure magic!
Last night, during the 99.7 Triple Ho Show in San Jose, Jessie was effortlessly crooning the hit tune when none other than “Neon Lights” starlet Demi Lovato came strutting out on stage to supply the vocals during Ariana’s verse. And, even though you might not be able to hear it over all the intense shrieking from the crowd, she utterly nailed it. Those incredible pipes! The two had an absolute blast on stage, dancing together during Nicki’s verse, and then bringing it all home with powerful riffs and ad-libs. Clearly, these two talented pop princesses need to hit the recording studio together ASAP.
Watch the powerhouse “Bang Bang” duet up top, and let us know what you think in the comments below. More »
LOGO TV’s 2014 NewNowNext Awards aren’t airing until December 7, but we already know who will be taking home the trophies during the ceremony next week.
The event, which just taped last night at Kimpton’s Surfcomber Hotel during Art Basel in Miami, was hosted by Darren Criss, and saw performances by “Burnin’ Up” diva Jessie J and “Somebody Loves You” songbird Betty Who, who also happened to take home the prize for Best New Musician (Female). Congratulations to you, Miss Who!
Other big winners of the night for the LGBT-oriented award show included A Great Big World (Best New Music Group) and UK soul-pop crooner Sam Smith, who won for Best New Musician (Male), while Broadway starlet Kristin Chenoweth was awarded the New Now Next Forever Award. Catch the full show airing on Logo TV on Dec. 7 at 8 PM and MTV on Dec. 12 at 7 PM. More »
You can either breathe easy or let out a great sigh of disappointment, because Jessie J and Ariana Grande are not teaming up to remake Brandy and Monica‘s R&B classic, “The Boy Is Mine.”
Despite the fact that Darkchild seemingly confirmed the collaboration for his upcoming 20th anniversary project, according to the UK’s Mirror, Jessie J quickly shot down those rumors herself on the American Music Awards red carpet. In fact, she even went so far as to reach out to Brandy about the idea.
“No, it’s not true, neither of us have agreed. Sadly people are believing it. I spoke to Brandy and I was like, ‘no it’s not happening’. Monica and Brandy are the best,” she said. It would be odd for Darkchild to dream up a collaboration without asking either of the participants, but that seems like a pretty stone-cold “no” on Jessie’s part, right? Ah, well. Maybe he was just listening to too much “Bang Bang.” More »
