It was almost a year ago that Lee DeWyze was crowned the Season 9 winner of American Idol
, and what has the former paint salesman done in his first year of pop stardom? Dropped his debut album, Live It Up
, to disappointing sales
; released a super-saccharine lead single
that failed to chart on the Hot 100; and… well, not much else. Let’s hope his upcoming world tour helps DeWyze pick up some steam as he enters year two. Dates below.
Last year’s American Idol winner
Lee DeWyze hit up Lopez Tonight
to perform his sleepy ballad “Beautiful Like You,” i.e. the song he crooned on AI the night Karen Rodriguez got the boot
last month. It’s kind of a given that the first rushed album an Idol
winner puts out is inevitably going to be a hodge podge of tunes, given the amount of cooks in the kitchen involved. But we can pretty much declare with confidence that this elevator-ready track will never, ever
grow on us the way, say, “Tattoo” or “Miss Independent” or “Live Like We’re Dying” did. Carry on, Lee.
Oh, American Idol
–you wicked, wicked beast. We’re literally still reeling and crying into our Corn Flakes over the scandalous, far-too-soon exit
of our Season 10 Idol Power List
fave Pia Toscano from the show. But she’s hardly the only upset viewers have had to endure since the series hit the air way back in 2002. Of course, the good news for Pia is that, as we’ve learned over the years, you don’t necessarily have to make it to the AI
finish line to achieve great success
. Head below to vote for who you think has made the most shocking exit from American Idol
in the past 10 seasons.
After Wednesday’s American Idol episode
where the Top 12 performed songs from their birth year, the contestants lost a member in last night’s elimination round. And if you checked out our Idol Power List
last Friday, you’ll know that the unlucky hopeful who said goodbye was not too much of a surprise for us (hint: she placed last). Head below to see Karen Rodriguez’s final moments, plus performances by last year’s AI
champ Lee DeWyze and the Black Eyed Peas.
is celebrating a decade on the air by releasing a greatest hits compilation called American Idol 10th Anniversary — The Hits
. The biggest problem (besides there being nary one Jennifer Hudson song) is that the term “hits” is about as appropriate a word to use as “stars” is on Dancing With The Stars
. Jump below to find out what songs and artists Fox considers a success.

:: Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun recently revealed in a radio interview that “Kanye wants to produce a bunch of new songs for his new album.” Apparently, a remix wasn’t enough to cure West of his Bieber fever. [Consequence Of Sound]
:: Crystal Bowersox is outselling Lee DeWyze, despite the fact Mama Sox’s debut album was released a month later than the Idol winner’s. Oh well. They’ll always have “Falling Slowly”. [EW Music Mix]
:: Rivers Cuomo covers The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” on his piano. [Spin]
:: Music sales fell 12.8% since last year. Digital downloading was up 1%, though! Silver lining? Okay, more like a bronze lining. [Billboard]
:: PopEater writes Taylor Swift’s song about her romance with Jake Gyllenhaal for her. Voila, the next chart-topping hit, “Left My Heart In A Coffee Cup.” [PopEater]
