One of them was born in Tennessee and one now calls the Volunteer State their home. The other thing Justin Timberlake
and Taylor Swift
have in common is that they were the big winners at the 41st annual American Music Awards, a shindig that went down at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre Live.
“Thrift Shop” upstarts Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who performed via satellite from their concert in Miami, went into the thing with the most nominations (six total). The duo wound up being recipients of the Best Rap/Hip Hop Album for their independently released The Heist.
But it was the Tennessee kids who took home most of the night’s honors; Timberlake for Pop/Rock Male Artist, Soul/R&B Male Artist and Soul/R&B Album (The 20/20 Experience), and Swift for the biggie, Artist Of The Year, plus Pop/Rock Female Artist, Country Album (Red) and Country Female Artist.
Also, “Diamonds” diva Rihanna was handed the very first AMAs Icon Award (by her mother, no less), because, well, she’s probably the most unstoppable force on the pop scene these days. RiRi also snagged the Soul/R&B Female Artist statue.

Sure, there have been boatloads of artist collaborations, features, mash-ups and pair-ups in recent memory, but we decided to stick with real-life amore, and compile a list of the best duets from 12 musical lovebirds over the past 20 years. Get in the mood below! More »

The 2011 American Music Awards returns once again this Sunday, and though its main purpose is to honor the best in music by handing out trophies, the greatest honor an artist can receive is landing one of the many, many performance slots during the three-hour show. This year’s crop of performers is certainly an all-star cast featuring the biggest names and loudest voices in pop, country, hip-hop and R&B, and as last year’s show received the lowest ratings in the history of the telecast, there’s nowhere to go but up, right? Head below for everything you need to know about music’s big night, or just watch the AMA performances:
It was Shakira’s big night at the Latin Grammys, which were held at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay on Thursday. Not only was the Colombian beauty named Person Of The Year, she also took to the stage a whopping three times, for performances of her songs “Loca”
, “Devocion” and “Antes De Las Seis”. Meanwhile, Puerto Rican duo Calle 13 walked away with nine wins (including Record Of The Year), while other performers included Demi Lovato, Usher, Romeo Santos, Pitbull and Marc Anthony. Watch below.
We’ve already got quite a lineup for the 2011 American Music Awards
— Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Pitbull and Mary J. Blige are all slated to perform. And today comes the announcement that Chris Brown, LMFAO and Marc Anthony will also take the stage during the November 20 broadcast. Probably not performing, at least not with Anthony: Jennifer Lopez

With so many (read: virtually all
) pop hits these days being features — think “Moves Like Jagger”
(Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera), “You Make Me Feel…”
(Cobra Starship featuring Sabi), “Party Rock Anthem”
(LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock), “Stereo Hearts”
(Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine), etc. — you have to wonder how these people coordinate their live performances. Well, in the case of Pitbull doing “Rain Over Me”
on Jimmy Kimmel Live
last night, he went it alone, without his chorus crooner Marc Anthony. Was it effective? Watch below and decide for yourself.
