Whitney Houston Remembered By Beyonce, Missy Elliott, Brandy And More

Whitney Houston would have turned 51 on August 9. That day, stars ranging from Beyonce to Missy Elliott and her friend Brandy paid tribute to the late pop superstar by taking a brief moment on social media to remember how she influenced and inspired them, whether on a collaborative basis or simply through her voice.

Bobbi Kristina Brown, Houston’s daughter with singer Bobby Brown, wished her mother a happy birthday by posting a picture of a cake with candles. Pop songwriter David Foster, who co-wrote The Bodyguard‘s Grammy-nominated “I Have Nothing,” chimed in to say that he misses her dearly. Elliott remembered a time when Houston actually tried on her Adidas.

Meanwhile, Beyonce simply posted a photo on her official site, after years of confessing how inspired she was by Houston’s 1991 Super Bowl XXV performance of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

“I, like every singer, always wanted to be just like her,” Beyonce said in 2012 to Essence, shortly after Houston died. “She is our queen and she opened doors and provided a blueprint for all of us.”

Fantasia & Missy Elliott Perform “Without Me” On ’106 & Park’: Watch

Fantasia Lays Down The Law
Fantasia performed slick girl-power anthem “Without Me” with rap legend Missy Elliot on 106 & Park last night (August 14). Unfortunately, Kelly Rowland couldn’t be there to sing her verse but the backing singers did a great job filling in for her. It was the first time the duo sang the R&B smash live and they pulled it off effortlessly.

Dressed in black, Tasia tore her vocal up — as usual — before Missy came out to show today’s crop of femcees how it’s done. In a post-performance interview, the former American Idol winner called the track “a little ratchet”. That might be true but ratchet never felt so good! Watch up top.

Fantasia, Kelly Rowland & Missy Elliott Join Forces In Sassy “Without Me” Video: Watch

What Would You Be Without Me?
Fantasia teamed up with pals Kelly Rowland and Missy Elliot on the sassy “Without Me” — a highlight from her hugely underrated Side Effects Of You album. The slinky break-up anthem is finally being released as a single and the trio have reunited for the slick, neon-colored video. Directed by Gomillion & Leupold, the clip shows Tasia in a completely new light. She looks sexier than ever, pulls off the modest choreography and poses like a real diva.

Perhaps being around Kelly and Missy rubbed off. The “Kisses Down Low” singer always turns it out and she sizzles in a bodysuit. The scene where the ladies dance together is a treat and they have obvious chemistry. But if I had to choose a highlight, it would have to be the return of Missy Elliot. She looks healthier and happier than she has in years, rocking a mohawk and trademark tracksuit. Her presence complements the track’s retro ’90s sound perfectly. More »
