It seemed inevitable, given his recent pair-ups on singles with Travie McCoy (“Wrapped Up”) and Demi Lovato (“Up”), that Olly Murs would get an American release for his fourth UK album, Never Been Better. And now there’s a date: March 10. Like with previous LP Right Place Right Time — the only other one to see the light of day in the States — Never Been Better will be released by Columbia Records.
Murs co-wrote most of the tracks on the album with songwriters that include Claude Kelly, Martin Johnson, Steve Robson, Paul Weller and Ryan Tedder. Here’s hoping he does a few more photo shoots like the one below to promote it. More »
What did pop stars do for a little harmless publicity before posting nudes on Instagram became an option? I guess they actually had to go out and perform their songs in front of real people. It must have been exhausting! While showing your nipples or butt is the hot trend on social media right now (think of all the likes and new followers!), many pop stars still prefer the good, old shirtless selfie.
It seems like every dude with a record deal stripped off for Insta in 2014. The usual suspects (Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone) were well accounted for, as were boy band members. The guys from 5 Seconds Of Summer and One Direction struggled to keep their shirts on, while British trio Union J took it a step further by losing their pants. The king of shirtless pics? That award goes to Nick Jonas and his frequently-flashed abs. Peruse the best pics up top. More »
One hundred years from now, when pop culture historians look back on 2014, they will be astounded (or perhaps just slightly amused) by our fascination with ass. You couldn’t click on YouTube without seeing a bottom-heavy diva shake her butt, or flick through Instagram without being greeted by a boy band’s buns. The obsession even crossed over into the music itself with Nicki Minaj landing a massive hit with “Anaconda” and Jennifer Lopez racking up those video streams with Iggy Azalea-assisted club-banger, “Booty.”
What does it all mean? You could argue that we, as a society, are becoming less tolerant of slut shaming, more accepting of our bodies or simply harder to shock. Hence the more-is-more approach to self-promotion. Whatever the case may be, the class of 2014 certainly left their mark. Rihanna‘s Lui magazine spread is legendary and Kim Kardashian almost broke the internet with her Paper magazine shoot. Meanwhile, Nick Jonas kickstarted his solo career by dropping his pants. See the year in ass up top. More »
It’s safe to say that Olly Murs and Demi Lovato will have a massive UK hit on their hands when “Up” drops January 4, 2015. The emotional duet has slick pop/rock production and a massive chorus that aptly showcases the duo’s powerful pipes. It sounds just as good, if not better, stripped back to basics. The unlikely pair unveiled an acoustic version of the track today (December 19), which features on the Brit’s upcoming Up EP.
Olly and Demi also treated fans to a simple black-and-white video of their performance. It finds the heartthrob, who recently stripped off for Attitude magazine, and the grande dame of Disney doing their thing in the studio. The focus is on their impressive, underrated vocals, which helps you appreciate “Up” on a whole new level. The track is the second single from the 28-year-old X Factor star’s cockily-titled fourth LP Never Been Better. Watch up top. More »
Straight after the release of their “Up” duet, Olly Murs and Demi Lovato now have a visual to accompany it! The shadowy clip finds the pair brooding in bare rooms, as they are separated by a brick wall. But that soon comes crashing down when Murs goes at it with his electric guitar. It is a tense and emotional video that goes along well with the soaring ballad.
“Up” is the second single off Olly Murs’ fourth studio album, Never Been Better (released on November 24 in the UK). It follows tracks like “Wrapped Up” and “Right Place, Right Time”. The 28-year-old British X Factor star is also planning to drop a free Christmas EP, titled Unwrapped. Look out for the four-track set on December 12 exclusively on Google Play. More »

The video clip for Band Aid 30‘s rendition of “Do They Know It’s Christmas” premiered Sunday evening (November 16) during the UK telecast of The X Factor, and even without Adele taking part, the new version is quite the star-studded affair. Here on the lyrically-revised 2014 installment of the song — the fourth time it’s been recorded for charity over the past 30 years — One Direction take the first line, followed by Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora, Sam Smith, Paloma Faith and a slew of others (including Bono, a veteran of the very first version, and Chris Martin, who took part 10 years ago in Band Aid 20‘s take on the classic holiday track). When the first version of the Band Aid collective’s charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas” was recorded in 1984, the studio session became a media event in of itself. Starting at 9 a.m., journalists watched closely as music superstars like U2‘s Bono, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Genesis drummer Phil Collins and Sting filed into the studio.
So on November 15, as new and established musicians alike arrived at London’s Notting Hill to record a new version of the song, this time raising awareness on the current ebola crisis, the media noticed that one notable artist was reportedly missing – Adele.
Despite announcements that she was among the dozen-plus participating artists, “Do They Know It’s Christmas” co-writer Bob Geldof (above, far right) said that Adele never responded to his request, according to The Independent. More »
Yesterday night, “Jam (Turn It Up)” chanteuse and Mrs. Kanye West herself Kim Kardashian set the Internet ablaze with her Jean-Paul Goude-shot Paper Magazine. It is, in a word, bootyful.
And, with that particular cover, Kim also successfully Konfirmed that 2014 truly was The Year Of The Booty: From Kylie Minogue‘s sexy “Sexercize” to Yoncé‘s good grips on her azz with “Partition” to Nicki Minaj‘s A$$-tastic “Anaconda” to Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea‘s “Booty” (obviously), the backside got all the lovin’ this year.
But now, we must determine something very serious: Who’s booty reigns supreme among them all?
