Christina Perri’s “Human” Gets A Mind-Blowing Passion Pit Remix: Listen

Christina Perri has another huge hit on her hands with Head Or Heart lead single “Human”. The moving ballad is steadily moving up the Billboard Hot 100, rapidly racking up radio spins and recently broke into the iTunes top 20. The song’s impressive remix package can only help its chart fortunes.

The stand-out EDM overhaul belongs to Passion Pit. When not releasing brilliant electronic tunes of their own, the band dabbles in remixing songs for other acts and they do a fantastic job of transforming Christina’s heartfelt hit into a sprawling synth anthem. This isn’t so much a remix as a completely new interpretation. Listen to the club-friendly version of “Human” after the jump. More »

Carrying On
Passion Pit took on fun.‘s anthemic “Carry On” for VEVO’s “Unexpected Covers” series, and just one listen shows why the band’s choice was fitting. While seated at the piano, Passion Pit’s frontman Michael Angelakos leads several back-up singers through the stripped-down rendition.

“… I think it’s one of the prettiest songs on the radio, and it’s rare that you get such a pretty song sung in a different way, with different instrumentation,” Angelakos said, referring to the song’s gradual build from an acoustic melody to a Queen-inspired guitar solo. “I think pared down like this, you can actually hear it for the brilliant song it is.” More »

Coachella 2013: Passion Pit Bring A Blast Of Pop To The Main Stage (PHOTOS)

My friend pointed out that Passion Pit‘s Gossamer sounds like a musical, and that sort of makes sense: it’s about Michael Angelakos, the hopeless romantic who’s a bit fucked in the head and somehow manages to turn all this melancholy into euphoria. This particular musical’s book was always solid, but at times the more delicate Gossamer moments have felt flat during the actual performances. But based on Passion Pit’s Coachella set Friday (April 12), Angelakos has finally mastered the stage show.

Noting that his band last played the Indio, CA festival in 2010, Angelakos said it was “fucking amazing” to be back playing the main stage. And his performance proved it wasn’t an empty claim. He was grinning through much of the set, his vocals sounded strong — which, for him, means loud and chirpy — and he got the entire crowd throwing hands up in unison and dancing with abandon. More »

Passion Pit’s “Cry Like A Ghost” Video: Watch The Quirky, Complex Clip

Rubber Band Romance
2013 is shaping up to be a really good year for music videos! There was the wonderfully overblown “I Got a Boy” from Girls’ Generation, then New Kids on the Block dropped their fresh “Remix (I Like The)” clip. Now Passion Pit have entered the discussion with the video for “Cry Like a Ghost.”

It’s one of the most emotional songs from Gossamer (that heartbreaking singalong “Sylviaaaa” chorus), and it’s also one of the most manically fun tracks on the album. The video, then, fittingly balances hyperactivity with heartbreak, employing a rubber band narrative that goes from romantic rollercoasters to scenes of solo dancing in the dark. And it all feels like one impossibly long take. Check it out up top. More »

Juicy J Remixes Passion Pit’s “Constant Conversations”: Listen

We love when music worlds collide. Actually, no, the days of rap-metal fusion, that was an example of genres literally colliding. These days, genres don’t crash into each other, they intertwine in much more rewarding, subtle ways. Even with genre boundaries crumbling, there are plenty of unlikely combinations that emerge and surprise us. Like, say, Juicy J remixing Passion Pit.

“Constant Conversations” is the smoothest thing Michael Angelakos has ever recorded, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before an enterprising MC laid a few rhymes over the head-bobbing track. But we can’t say we would’ve pegged Juicy J as the man for the job. But here the Columbia labelmates link up for an official remix, and it works! Our only complaint is that Juicy turns up for just one verse. Solid idea and solid execution, but it left us wanting more. Hear it below. More »

Bonnaroo 2013 Festival Lineup Features Paul McCartney, Mumford & Sons, Bjork

Bonnaroovians, it’s once again time to pack your bags, dust off your tent and get ready to send spring off with a bang via the annual fest in Manchester, Tennessee. This year’s four-day Bonnaroo Music & Arts bonanza is set to take place from June 13 – 16, and features a lineup that includes an eclectic array of artists who are iconic (Paul McCartney, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), established (Bjork, R. Kelly, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan), award-winning (Mumford & Sons), alternative (Grizzly Bear, Passion Pit, The xx) and new(ish) (Haim, The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis).

All in all, not a bad lineup, though it’s definitely one that feels a bit lackluster — especially after the overall ho-hum-ness surrounding this year’s Coachella roster. More »

Passion Pit & Sophia Bush Get “Carried Away”: Watch The Playful Video

Michael + Sophia
Here’s another nontraditional Valentine’s Day love story for you (although, it’s more in line with the holiday than, say, Lil Wayne‘s V-Day offering): Passion Pit‘s “Carried Away” music video. Sophia Bush (of One Tree Hill fame) stars with frontman Michael Angelakos in the the playful clip, detailing their relationship through the good times and the bad via subtitles. A rebellious and competitive Sophia Bush spends half her time being cute and spunky and the other half mad at her boyf, who goes to great lengths to apologize to her each time (“sorry” in skywriting — good luck topping that today, fellas). Kings Of Leon, Kendrick Lamar, Ellie Goulding Heading To Hangout Fest: See The Lineup Announcement

Festival season hasn’t begun yet, but festival announcement season is in full swing. The latest conglomeration of bands, genres and food trucks to announce its lineup is the Hangout Music Fest, which takes place in Gulf Shore, AL on May 17-19. (Seems like a totally random spot for a music festival, but there’s a beach, which optimizes hangout vibes.) Kings of Leon and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are headlining, with a third mystery headliner yet to be revealed — taking a page out of this year’s Governors Ball book.

Speaking of Gov Ball, Kendrick Lamar will be on hand for this festival and the NYC event. Of the remaining 50 acts on the Alabama bill, some others that will please pop-leaning fans include: The Roots, Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding, Public Enemy and The Shins. Watch the video announcing the full lineup below. Coachella Lineup 2013: The Stone Roses, Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers To Headline

The official lineup for Coachella 2013 is here. Rejoice! After teasing us with an “artsy” trailer earlier this week (which revealed zilch about this year’s musical acts) the music and art festival finally gave the Internet what it had been waiting for: the annual poster reveal. Those who mistook this photo of a rock in the middle of a field posted to Coachella’s Facebook page as a hint the Rolling Stones would headline after will be surprised to learn that the photo was actually referring Friday night headliners The Stone Roses.

Among the other groups with top billing for the April 12 – 14 and April 19 – 21 fest are Phoenix and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Other notable 2013 acts include: Tegan And Sara, The Postal Service, Passion Pit, Grimes, 2 Chainz, Beach House, Alex Clare, La Roux, Hot Chip, Vampire Weekend,  the xx, The LumineersJanelle Monae, Major Lazer and Jessie WareMore »

Passion Pit “Carried Away (Viceroy Remix)”: Idolator Premiere

Passion Pit‘s Gossamer was one of the prettiest albums of the year, and “Carried Away” was one of the cheeriest, most infectious songs of the bunch. So it’s only fitting that Viceroy — whose motto is “Summertime, all the time” — decided to remix that particular Michael Angelakos track.

Viceroy’s remix keeps the song’s original foundation, but his treatment ditches the slinky-to-lush and quiet-to-loud transitions in favor of a more uniform dance pulse. It’s got bursting bubbles of electro, a handclap breakdown and even some clean guitar riffs. Check it out below. More »
