brought out Ja Rule
and paid tribute to Selena Quintanilla-Perez
during her June 4 homecoming concert (“The Bronx!”) at Pelham Bay Park’s Orchard Beach. She may be prepping for next week’s release of A.K.A.
, but during that concert, she was more than aware that fans rode the 6 to see her live – the same subway line referenced in her 1999 debut, On the 6
Lopez actually brought out several guests during the show: Fat Joe performed the Terror Squad‘s “Lean Back,” while French Montana assisted with A.K.A.‘s “I Luh Ya Papi.” But it was Ja Rule who inspired the loudest cheers, as he strolled on stage to perform his verses from Murder Inc‘s “Ain’t It Funny” and “I’m Real” remixes. The crowd chimed in whenever they could, seen when Lopez sang Selena’s “No Me Queda Más,” off her 1994 and fifth album Amor Prohibido.

In 1997, Jennifer Lopez
starred in a movie that landed her much critical acclaim and earned the respect of her peers. No, not Anaconda
— we’re talking about Selena
, the biopic based on the life of late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez
, who was murdered in 1995 at the age of 23 by her fan club president.
Fifteen years after the film’s release, “Goin’ In” diva J.Lo hit up the American Airlines Center on her Dallas tour stop over the weekend and paid tribute to Selena by covering her 1994 single “No Me Queda Mas”. The Texas crowd gave props to J.Lo and the late Queen Of Tejano (who was from Corpus Christi) by singing along. Watch Lopez reprise one of her most famous roles for nearly four minutes above.

:: Coming as a surprise to no one, Madonna‘s MDNA tour has been rife with scandal. The latest is that she’s skipping her Australia stop to spend more time with her kids — but at least she took the time to film an apology to her Aussie fans, explaining why she’d be an “irresponsible parent” if she extended her tour Down Under. :: Every musician and their mother is set to appear on a singing competition show this fall, but Alanis Morissette isn’t doing her judging of the contestants, but rather the shows themselves. The “Guardian” angel doesn’t think these programs help foster singer/songwriters, or help create talents that will last beyond a mere flash in the pan. [PopCrush]
