2NE1′s CL Hits The Studio With Diplo, Skrillex And RoccStar

Madonna And Nicki Minaj Hit The Studio With SOPHIE
Madonna And Nicki Minaj Hit The Studio With SOPHIE
The rising electronic producer's making moves, according to Diplo.

CL, dynamic lead vocalist of the must-hear 2NE1, surprised both K-Pop and dubstep fans when she popped up in Skrillex‘s forward-thinking debut album Recess. Then last month, she made headlines as she cemented plans to make her stateside debut next year, and while working with super-manager Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Psy). Last night (November 21), CL showed fans that she’s pulling out all the stops for her U.S. takeover, by hitting the studio and posing (above) with producers Skrillex, Diplo and RoccStar.

When Diplo isn’t working as chief architect and spokesman for Madonna‘s forthcoming new album, he has been teaming with Skrillex in the joint side project Jack Ü, as heard in Kiesza collaboration “Take U There.” Skrillex himself worked with rising moombahton star Dillon Francis on a song to appear in the latter’s upcoming EP, not to be mistaken for debut album Money Sucks, Friends Rule. Meanwhile, RoccStar’s most recent clients include Usher (“Clueless”), Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown and comeback kid Fergie.

Diplo Drops Skrillex And Kiesza Collaboration “Take U There”: Listen

Diplo, pop-meets-Miami bass DJ, and Skrillex, dubstep king, initially introduced their joint side project Jack Ü during last year’s Mad Decent Block Party touring festival. Now, more than a year after the producer duo’s debut, Diplo revealed a live version of Jack Ü collaboration with Kiesza, “Take U There.”

While Kiesza’s breakout hit, “Hideaway,” could easily be mistaken for an early ’90s house record, “Take U There” transports the rising Canadian pop singer to the present. Without much hesitation, her powerhouse vocals lead to the sort of dramatic bass drops and honking rhythms to be expected from the two superstar producers.

Diplo recently said that Jack Ü will release a self-titled mixtape soon. For now,  hear the live version of “Take U There,” recorded during the Brooklyn stop of this year’s Mad Decent Block Party trek, below. More »

Diplo Previews New Collaboration With Skrillex And Kiesza, “Take You There”: Listen

What happens when two of dance music’s most dynamic producers team up together on one mixtape? We’re about to find out: Twerk-master Diplo and dubstep king Skrillex are set to release their collaborative mixtape Jack Ü, as confirmed during Diplo’s Ask Me Anything session on Reddit this week.

And the first song to drop from the upcoming collabo? “Take You There,” featuring vocals from none other than our favorite “Hideaway” dance-pop sweetheart, Kiesza! (From dancing in the streets of Brooklyn to teaming up to the studio with the heavyweights in the time span of less than a year — now that’s impressive.)

Lucky for us, Diplo’s in a teasing mood lately thanks to Madonna, and he’s just given us a tantalizing first taste of the track. While DJing at Concorde Atlantique in Paris last week, Diplo dropped his Kiesza and Skrillex-assisted “Take You There.” And so far, it’s everything one might expect a collabo between the trio to sound — powerhouse vocals and mind-melting beat drops, mainly. According to Spin, the Major Lazer superstar is trying to get a stream of the song out “this week.” We’re ready!

Listen to Diplo spin the new track after the jump, and let us know what you think about the upcoming collabo. More »

Pitbull’s Pants Steal The Show At World Cup Opening Ceremony: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Skrillex‘s two-hour Superjam set at Bonnaroo was filled with surprises: Janelle Monae covered Michael Jackson (“Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”) and James Brown (“I Feel Good”), Mystikal popped up and Lauryn Hill showed up unannounced to close with the Fugees‘ “Ready or Not.” [Billboard]

:: Lana Del Rey first wrote the Lou Reed-referencing “Brooklyn Baby” to feature the rock legend himself. She tried to meet with him, too. “I took the red eye [to New York], touched down at 7 a.m. … and two minutes later, he died,” she says. [The Guardian]

:: Eve married British fashion designer Maxmillion Cooper in Ibiza, Spain, over the weekend. “I’m so happy to make Eve my wife,” Cooper says. “The whole experience has been amazing and we are both so happy to have tied the knot.” [E!]

:: Sky Ferreira recently stopped by a Brazilian TV show, to be asked whether fans like her debut Night Time, My Time for the music, the cover art or “because of the tits, of course.” Her answer was flawless: “I’m pretty sure it’s because of the work, but I guess it helps if you’re a pervert.” [DIY]

Austin City Limits 2014: Eminem, Outkast, Skrillex, Pearl Jam To Headline

Following Eminem‘s Texas-themed Instagram post hinting he’d be headlining Austin City Limits this year, the official 2014 lineup has been announced, and Marshall Mathers is indeed at the top of the bill. Em will headline the fall festival along with Pearl Jam, Outkast, Beck and Skrillex, the latter serving as the lone youngster on the top line. But millennials will find plenty to like on the lineup’s second row, with Calvin Harris, Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Foster The People rounding out the second level of acts.

Idolator faves like Zedd, Major Lazer, Chromeo, Chvrches, Phantogram, Iggy Azalea, Icona Pop, Capital Cities, Sam Smith, Kodaline and Bleachers also made the cut, along with a bevy of under-the-radar artists. They’ll perform across eight stages at Austin’s Zilker Park over two weekends, October 3-5 and 10-12. Passes for both weekends go on sale today (April 22) at 11 a.m. ET at the ACL site.

Stream Elliphant’s Star-Studded ‘Look Like You Love It’ EP

Sorta-Swedish pop firebrand Elliphant dropped her Look Like You Love It EP on Mad Decent today (April 15), and the star-studded affair is available to stream in full. Enlisting an A-list roster of producers, including Dr. Luke, Diplo, Skrillex and Dave Sitek, the pan-global enigma has put together a hybrid of EDM, dancehall, rap and Swedish pop, resulting in something that’s uncategorizable and instantly captivating.

We’ve already heard the bombastic “Revolusion,” and her tracks with Diplo and Skril are equally propulsive. But even when she quiets things down, like on “Everything 4 U,” there’s still a nervy energy behind her raspy refrains.

Skrillex & Ragga Twins’ “Ragga Bomb” Video Has Some Insane Dancing: Watch

skrillex ragga bomb video
Night Moves
Skrillex has premiered the video for “Ragga Bomb,” a searing, moombahton-infused dose of dubstep from Recess featuring UK duo Ragga Twins. The muscular track gets an equally intense visual directed by Terence Neale. It’s a dark and gritty showcase of highly choreographed dance, and it culminates with that old trope the dance battle.

And while there have been countless examples of dance-fighting in pop culture over the years, I can’t remember any that end in creepy glow-in-the-dark twerking and a massive light saber duel. Check it out up top. More »

‘Frozen’ Soundtrack Chills Atop Album Chart For A Seventh Week, Holds Off YG & Foster The People

Let It Go (On And On And On And...)
This week sees a whopping six new debuts in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart — including YG‘s My Krazy Life at #2 (61,000 copies sold), Foster The People‘s Supermodel at #3 (54,000) and Skrillex‘s Recess at #4 (47,000) — yet none of them are able to unseat the mighty Frozen soundtrack, which is sitting at #1 for a seventh non-consecutive week.

The Oscar-winning Frozen is still in theaters, and its domestic box office total is $397 million. But the animated Disney blockbuster was also released on DVD and Blu-Ray last week, which no doubt helped boost the soundtrack to its best sales week yet. (It moved another 202,000 copies.) To-date, the album has sold 1.6 million total.

Also getting a lift is the soundtrack’s breakout single, the Idina Menzel number “Let It Go,” which moves up to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. More »
