Following the video sensation that is edits of Barack Obama‘s speeches to the tune of Carly Rae Jepsen‘s smash “Call Me Maybe”, it’s been announced that both the incumbent Prez and his Republican rival in the forthcoming November election will open the 2012 CMT Music Awards tonight (airing at 8 p.m. EST). Say what?

“The President and Governor Romney each understand the reach of the CMT audience, particularly on our highest-rated night of the year,” said Brian Philips, President of CMT, via a press release. “They’re each great sports, they’re ‘in on the joke’, and they each went out of their way to deliver great moments for CMT. Tune in at the top of the show or you’ll miss them!”

Fingers crossed for an Obama-Romney lip dub of “Red Solo Cup”.
