M.I.A.’s “Bring The Noize”: Preview The New Song Out June 17

Sri Lankan pop provocateur M.I.A. has released a preview to a new song out June 17. “Bring the Noize” will be the first single she’s released since 2012’s “Bad Girls,” which was slated for her fourth album Matangi. Based on the preview, “Bring the Noize” is a high-energy, propulsive banger, thanks to a bouncing and skipping sample of M.I.A. singing, “Freedom.” The preview quickly shifts to a rapped verse, in which she reintroduces herself by her birth name: “People call me Matangi.”

While Matangi was originally due out last December, M.I.A.’s label instructed her to “darken it up a bit.” (“It’s like ‘We just built you up as the public enemy No. 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff,'” she said.) She has since described Matangi as “Paul Simon on acid,” while producer Hit-Boy (Britney Spears‘“Scream & Shout” remix, Watch the Throne‘s “Paris”) revealed that the two of them worked on seven songs together.

M.I.A. will debut “Bring the Noize” in its entirety on DJ Zane Lowe‘s BBC Radio 1 show. Hear the preview at her official website, then check out a few clips of its video after the jump.
