Although he won the Best Hip-Hop Award for “Hold On, We’re Going Home” at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards this past Sunday, Drake was unfortunately unable to accept his Moonman while out on his joint tour with fellow Young Money rapper, Lil Wayne.

However, that didn’t stop the Toronto rapper from eventually making a pretty hilarious acceptance speech at his show in Boston the day after. Weezy got the ball rolling by introducing the prize, while Drizzy thanked him as if he were Chicago hip-hop star Common, who had initially presented the award on Sunday’s telecast.

“First of all, I want to thank God,” Drake stated. “I’d like to also thank my mother because I love her very much. I’d also like to thank Lil Wayne because none of this would be possible without that man right there.”

He then went on to say: “I know this is a hip-hop award and I know a lot of you out there are frustrated, like this is not a hip-hop song. You’re right, I tricked you all! Rappers, better luck next year. Thank you!”
