Phil Collins (Kind Of) Shades Adele About Failed Collaboration: “She’s A Slippery Little Fish”

This is — hands down — the weirdest music beef of 2014. Phil Collins surprised everyone earlier this year when he revealed that he was writing songs for Adele‘s new album. It sounded like an odd pairing in theory and obviously didn’t pan out too well in practice either. It seems the ’80s hitmaker simply didn’t hear back from the mega-selling songbird. Ouch.

“[Adele] got hold of me and asked if I would write with her,” Phil told Q magazine. “She gave me a piece of music to finish and at first I didn’t know if I’d failed the audition as I didn’t hear back from her.” This is where it gets a little/a lot messy. “She said, ‘no, no, I’m moving house and the baby’s taking up a lot of my time, I’m not actually doing anything at the moment’.”

“And now I’ve heard there’s a [new album] coming out,” the 63-year-old continues. “I’m not on it, I know that.” Well, that’s incredibly awkward. His verdict? “She’s a slippery little fish is Adele.”

Does Phil have cause to be annoyed? Sound off in the comments below.
