Matt Corby Returns With Soulful, Gospel-Tinged Gem “Monday”

Australian singer/songwriter Matt Corby broke big in 2011 with folk/rock anthem “Brother.” It was crowned Song Of The Year at the ARIA Awards and propelled parent EP Into The Flame to the top of the charts. (The four-song set eventually went six-times platinum). He followed that up with a second smash “Resolution” in 2013, but then fell off the radar for a couple of years.

The 24-year-old returns this week with the first taste of his debut LP (due in early 2016 via Elektra Records). And a lot has changed, sonically at least, since we last heard from him. “Monday” is a soulful, gospel-tinged anthem that showcased the richness of Matt’s voice like never before. If this is any indication, the crooner’s debut LP will be well worth the wait. But, why the delay? “I recorded an album two years ago that I didn’t like,” he admits.

“For a lot of reasons I wouldn’t release it,” Matt continues. “It took me a year and a half to clear my head of everything that happened, accept my failures, reboot and have the balls to do it again.” Listen to the hauntingly beautiful “Monday” below.
