Kesha Fans Express Their Outrage At Dr. Luke Ruling On Twitter
Kesha sobbed in open court this afternoon (February 19) when New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich refused to grant an injunction that would allow the pop star to sever ties with Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records. Her devastation was palpable, an emotion that was shared by fans outside the courthouse and on the internet. It didn’t take long for #FreeKesha to become a trending topic on Twitter due to the outpouring of outrage at the verdict.
“This is literally a perfect example on why many rape victims stay quiet and people still wonder why they don’t speak up about it,” one commentator reasoned. “This is a tragedy. Rape culture is when a $60M ‘investment’ is worth more than a persons sexual and physical safety,” declared another. While most of the music community refused to take sides, “New Americana” hitmaker Halsey didn’t mince words.
“Disgusted by anyone in power positions abusing their authority. My heart breaks for Kesha and all people affected by this toxicity,” she wrote. “I don’t even know what I would do… I only hope she can find peace and find a way to continue to create express herself without fear.” While Kesha’s experienced a major legal setback today, she can take some comfort in knowing that fans still have her back. A judge just told Kesha if she wants to make music, she has to work with her accused rapist. https://t.co/drjvHPMMoo pic.twitter.com/BeMYQG9SwR

It disgusts me that @SonyMusicGlobal worries more about the money than the safety of their artists. Kesha has thought of SUICIDE!

No wonder victims hardly ever speak up for themselves, this is a reason. The government decides if you're a victim or not. #FreeKesha
