Lady Gaga‘s performance wasn’t the only powerful musical moment to take place at last night’s Oscars. Both Sam Smith and The Weekend took the stage at Sunday’s ceremony to perform their Academy Award-nominated hits. The British crooner took the stage first with a searing rendition of “Writing’s On The Wall,” the theme song off the latest Bond film Spectre.

Then, following what seemed like a lagging run-through of this year’s nominees, The Weeknd switched things up with a sultry rendition of his song “Earned It” off the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack.

Later in the ceremony, Smith took home the trophy for Best Original Song, but despite the win, he said that he hated his performance.
