Shawn Mendes Performs “Mercy” On ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’
While most of his contemporaries are relaxing on yachts or exotic beaches, Shawn Mendes has been hard at work. The 18-year-old dropped a live album, Live At Madison Square Garden, just before Christmas and was still in full promo mode on NYE with a killer set on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. The hardworking Canadian was back at it yesterday (January 4) — belting out rising hit “Mercy” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He began the performance at the piano, before getting to his feet and delivering vocals. From beginning to end, it was hard to fault.
And the teen’s promo blitz seems to be paying off. “Mercy” rocketed to number one on iTunes over Christmas (it’s now sitting at number 4) and reaches a new peak of 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. At this rate, Shawn will be celebrating his third top 10 hit (after “Stitches” and “Treat You Better”) before the beginning of February.
