He finally explains his decision not to submit the critically acclaimed 'Blond' for Grammy consideration.

Ed Sheeran‘s chart reign isn’t likely to let up anytime soon. Last night, the singer-songwriter returned to Saturday Night Live to perform off his upcoming third album Divide.

Ed warmed up with “Shape of You,” the current No. 1 song in America, which has just enough swagger to show how he (once again) takes cues from the Justified playbook. But he seemed to come alive with “Castle on the Hill,” the ramshackle anthem about finding home in even the most modest of places.

If “Castle on the Hill” (currently No. 6 on the Billboard 200) is for future high school graduations, “Shape of You” can soundtrack messy college dating thereafter. Moreover, they’re proof of Ed’s greatest strength as a songwriter — his relatability.

Next, Ed will see at tonight’s Grammy Awards whether he can win Song of the Year twice in a row, this time for “Love Yourself” with Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco. Watch him perform on SNL below.
